Abstract

In this article, we aim to analyze Brazilian foreign policy during the Malvinas/Falklands War (1982), examining Brazil's performance in this period, its impacts on the conflict and on the relations with both countries involved in the dispute over the Islands. Officially, Brazil maintained a neutral position during the war. However, historically, since the British took over the islands in 1833, Brazil's position has supported Argentina's legitimate rights in the dispute over sovereignty over the Islands. Thus, through analysis, Brazil's position is perceived as a neutrality inclined towards Argentina. In addition, some indications contribute to this view, such as veiled aid and omission, in cases where foreign aid passes to Argentines through Brazilian territory, and the British Armed Forces prohibit passage.
