Abstract

The purpose of this article is to reflect about mother tongue (Portuguese) and foreign language (English) learning in higher education. It also talks over current language teaching and learning  theories, as well as analyzes language course descriptions in different courses and interviews professors who testify their daily teaching and learning process, providing a parallel among theory, school planning and practicing classroom.
