Abstract

Among the many theories that help the work with texts in the language classroom, this paper aims to expose, in the light of theoretical and methodological assumptions of French semiotics (Greimasian), a proposal for analysis of text in English language classes (Barros, 1990; FIORIN, 2002, 2004 LIMOLI & NETO, 2001, among others). As a practical illustration, we chose to analyze the fable “The Lion in Love”, by Aesop. We emphasize that the choice of this genre is merely for practical illustration of the theory chosen, since it is possible to apply it to the severaltext genres present in the social spheres and worked with in the classroom. Our focus is on English classes in high school, which does not invalidate the application of this theory in other educational segments. We hope to contribute by offering an additional option for working with text, increasing the number of didactic procedures available for the teacher to use in language classes.
