TOPONÍMIA EM LIBRAS

LEVANTAMENTO, REGISTRO E CATEGORIZAÇÃO DE SINAIS DOS MUNICÍPIOS DO TOCANTINS

Abstract

This article presents the research procedures in relation to survey, record and categorization in a Project about toponyms in Brazilian Sign Language in some cities of the State of Tocantins. The signs herein presented were collected from spontaneous chats among deaf people, from observation and from interviews carried out with deaf people in the local deaf community. In order to register these signs, it was elaborated a lexicographic-toponymic form that involves the following microparadigms: image from the local sign in Libras; location and map of the municipality; access link to the video available on YouTube; the registration of the sign in signwriting, through the signwriting system; the name of the toponym in Portuguese; the administrative region to which the city belongs to; description of the sign in its articulatory aspects; the sign morphology (simple or compound); the toponymy category (native/pure, initialised or spelled); the sign motivation (iconicity or motivation of the Portuguese language and its consequences); the name of the researcher responsible for the survey of the toponyms; validation group of the toponym; the type of source; and the date of collection. Toponymy signs were categorised  in relation to the form (native/pure, initialised/hybrid and spelled), and about the motivation (iconic motivation, and Portuguese motivation). The data presented in this research is part of a larger Project, entitled  Toponyms in Libras, which aims to document and make available toponyms in Libras by storing information in Lexicographic-Toponymic Digital Sheets.
