Ethical Guidelines
Ethical Guidelines
Archeion Online's Statement on Publication Ethics and Misrepresentation is largely based on the guidelines and standards developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), an international organization of reference in integrity and ethics in scientific publications. Thus, the entire editorial and post-publication process follows COPE's recommendations [Available at: https://publicationethics.org/guidance/Guidelines].
The guidelines aim to indicate ethical standards for authors, reviewers and editors in the process of publishing articles in Archeion Online Journal.
In cases involving suspected misconduct related to submission, there will be a verification by the editors with a view to ensuring the high standard of scientific and ethical rigor and to ensuring that all doubts are clarified or informed to readers.
If misconduct on the part of authors is found, the article will be withdrawn from the review process, and the journal may, at the discretion of the editorial board, refuse to accept future submissions from the author(s).
If misconduct on the part of a member of the editorial team or ad doc reviewer is proven, the latter will be removed from their duties at the journal.
Author Responsibilities
By submitting a manuscript to Archeion Online, the author(s) warrant that the manuscript is their own original work and that it has not been previously published or is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
They also warrant that the sources of any ideas and/or words in the manuscript other than their own have been properly attributed through appropriate citations and/or citations.
An author should not normally publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in multiple journals or local publications. Such redundant publication is generally considered unethical publishing behavior and, if discovered, may result in the rejection of a manuscript under consideration or the retraction of a published article.
Adequate acknowledgement of the work of other researchers should always be observed. All publications that were influential in determining the results of the work should be reported.
Fabrication of results and making fraudulent or intentionally inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and may be grounds for rejection or retraction of a published manuscript or article.
All sources of financial support for the research should be disclosed in the manuscript.
Authors' names should be listed in the article in the order of their contribution, and all authors assume responsibility for their own contributions.
Only individuals who have made a substantial contribution should be listed as authors; those whose contributions are indirect or marginal (e.g., colleagues or supervisors who reviewed drafts of the work or provided assistance in the review, and heads of research institutes/centers/laboratories) should be named in the “Acknowledgements” section at the end of the article, immediately preceding the List of References.
When an author identifies a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is his/her obligation to notify the Editorial Team of the Archeion Online journal and collaborate in the correction or retraction of the work.
Reviewers' Responsibilities
The review process is based on the merit of the work, according to the guidelines informed in the “About the Journal” page [https://periodicos.ufpb.br/index.php/archeion/about] and includes the plagiarism check of all submissions.
Archeion Online's Reviewers/Evaluators/Reviewers perform work for the journal on a voluntary basis. They are free to decline invitations to review specific submitted content at their discretion, especially if they may have a potential conflict of interest in performing the review.
Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shown to or discussed with others, except as authorized by the Editor of the Archeion Online journal.
They should express their opinions clearly, explaining and justifying all recommendations made.
They should draw the attention of the editor in charge to any important similarities between a manuscript under consideration and other articles or published works of which they are aware, as well as any concerns they may have regarding the ethical acceptability of the research reported in the manuscript.
The review should not be influenced, positively or negatively, by personal reasons or those not guided by Archeion Online's guidelines. Opinions that are not sufficiently justified or that contain offenses or inappropriate postures will not be accepted.
The reviewer is expected to maintain anonymity regarding the evaluation and confidentiality of the reviewed articles. In the event of any conflict of interest, the reviewer must inform the editors before acceptance or during the evaluation process using a specific form available in the journal's system. If the reviewer finds any irregularity in relation to the article under review, the reviewer must notify the editor.
Responsibilities of the Editors
The editors and the editorial board are responsible for overseeing the ethical issues of Archeion Online. Any complaint or suspicion of misconduct by authors, reviewers or even the editorial team can be sent to the journal's email [archeionline@gmail.com], which will be analyzed by the editors, based on the COPE Guidelines [Available at: publicationethics.org/files/Full%20set%20of%20English%20flowcharts_9Nov2016.pdf]
The editors are responsible for deciding which works submitted to the journal should be published.
