Adorno e Horkheimer: critique of capitalist system and its form of alienation

Abstract

The present work intends to analyze the context in which the Cultural Industry determines what to do and how to do it through advertising, entertainment, economic power, as well as cultural goods in merchandise that provoke alienating behavior, restricting the capacity for critical consciousness. In this context, theorists such as Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer develop important reflections on the mechanisms that the capitalist system uses for new advances and also establishes itself in society. Analyzing the need for reflection and behavior change regarding what is conceivable in the mechanisms of leisure, entertainment and consumption, and we observe it as being real, we must seek to question and sharpen critical thinking in relation to the production propagated by the Cultural Industry in our daily lives. day. The objective is to understand what alienation is and how it appears today, questioning the relationship between alienation and the Cultural Industry in society.

Jorge Alberto Ramos Sarmento, Universidade Federal do Pará

Professor Associado da Faculdade de Filosofia do Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas (UFPA). Licenciado em filosofia (UFPA) e especialista em Educação e Problemas Regionais (UFPA). Possui mestrado e doutorado em Ciências Sociais (UFPA) e membro do Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisas PAIDEIA - Filosofia da Educação, Epistemologia e Formação (CNPq), tendo publicado livros e capítulos de livros, assim como artigos em periódicos, com orientações de trabalhos de conclusão de curso na graduação e monografias de especialização, tendo coordenado vários projetos de pesquisa na área da filosofia política, além de atividades de ensino e extensão, atuando também na administração como diretor e vice-diretor da Faculdade de Filosofia (UFPA) e Coordenador do Programa de Formação de Professores - PARFOR, do Curso de Filosofia da UFPA, atuando como conselheiro do Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa com Seres Humanas do Instituto de Ciências da Saúde da UFPA, estando vinculado também no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Filosofia - PPGFIL, do Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas da UFPA.

RESEARCH DESCRIPTION: Reflecting on the direction of democracy in today's contemporary societies is of fundamental importance, as such reflections arise as a possibility of providing a better understanding of the crises that such societies are going through.
