Abstract

The present paper approach the case of the “lonely soul life” in which we speak “to ourselves” outside of the communicative discourse. The case in point is presented by Husserl in the opening paragraphs of the First Investigation of Logical Investigations. Firstly, the paper presents the meanings of sign as "indication" and as "expression". It then approach the case of the solitary discourse, in which the sign acts as an expression but not as an index. Finally, it hypothesizes that the case under consideration would contain acceptance of the principle of personal identity, which in turn would lead to the collapse of the speaker and listener. Denouncing this collapse would allow us to claim an equivalence between dialogical discourse and solitary discourse.
