Abstract

The School Library's function is to contribute to the School in the teaching, learning and socialization process of students and to develop from the beginning of their schooling, the skills to locate, select and interpret informational content. However, how can reading practices be effective in facilitating the teaching-learning process at school? To answer this question, an exploratory and descriptive research is adopted as to methodological objectives and a bibliographical and documental research as to methodological procedures. The results indicate that reading practices can be effective in facilitating the teaching-learning process at school when economic problems and socio-cultural nuances are alleviated or resolved and favorable conditions to students educational progress are offered, as well as when there is the essential work integration between the librarian and the teacher in the school environment.
