As part of the community that makes use of the public library, students look for this equipment to respond to their educational demands, among them, school research. Therefore, the general objective of this study was to investigate the types of information sources for school research in the area of Biological Sciences available in the collection of a public library. The specific objectives were: identifying the bibliographic materials on sciences available in the public library collection; analyze the relevance and quality of the materials found; categorize the identified sources of information. As a methodology, an exploratory analysis of the sources of information available in the collection of the Municipal Public Library Professor Francisco Tibúrcio de Oliveira, located in Santa Luzia, municipality of the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, was chosen. Thus, a technical visit was made to the institution, so that the researchers were able to evaluate the bibliographic materials. The collection found can be categorized into four distinct types: theoretical books, paradidactic books, reference works and textbooks. The analysis of informational materials shows a lack of information sources that can adequately support school research. Although such criticisms are necessary to highlight the lack of investment in the public library by the municipality, the institution's relevance to the community as a non-formal learning environment is emphasized.Downloads
