This article aims to identify the perceptions of academics participating in a research group in the field of History, linked to the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (FURG) about their informational skills with regard to searches in databases for conducting academic research. In this perspective, the possibility of analyzing how familiar academics / researchers are with regard to search strategies with regard to scientific information is justified. In addition, the perception of students when establishing a relationship between their scientific information needs and what their institution promotes to address them. The investigation has a quali-quantitative approach. A questionnaire was applied containing 10 questions (two open and eight closed). It is believed that there is a need for an institutional dialogue on what permeates the construction of policies aimed at information literacy, from the perspective of instructing academics in their searches in reliable sources for the construction of their scientific research. Therefore, under the understanding of a diametrical relationship between the need for and the promotion of programs in information literacy, there is a wide field of action in which the institution can appropriate itself and contribute to the development of informational skills of its academics and, as a result of society.
