This article is an exercise of reflection stimulated by the discipline Identity and Memory, linked to the Graduate Program in Information Science of the Federal University of Paraíba. Brasilidade, a conception used to outline the characteristics of the Brazilian people, is often limited to the discourse of "a tropical country blessed by God". This adjective, formed by the suffix “eiro” indicated, in the colonial period, the one who lived to explore and trade with pau-Brasil. The objective of this work is to examine some discourses of Jair Bolsonaro, opposing them to the feeling of Brasilidade, making a parallel with the collective memory, in order to identify some issues related to culture and stereotypes that permeate the universe of Brazilian cultural identity, often portrayed in a negative way by the speeches of the then President of the Republic.
