The present work has as its theme the school library as a teaching-learning instrument, and its contributions to the integral development of the student as a research space. Aims contextualize the role of the school library in the teaching-learning process. Specifically, it aims to: a) collect scientific articles relating to the topic; b) analyze the role of libraries in the teaching-learning process and; c) identify the practices of using libraries for the teaching-learning process based on the recovered texts. The theoretical framework deals with school libraries and their participation in the school environment, highlighting their pedagogical practices and their contributions to access to research, knowledge and information for readers. Methodologically, this is a qualitative, bibliographic, descriptive and exploratory research, with a time frame from 2012 to 2022, and with data collection from the following sources: integrated search from UFSC, SciElo and BRAPCI. As a result, it is concluded that the discussion about the school library and the teaching-learning process takes place at a theoretical level, with little evidence of the practices that effectively contribute to this process. However, there is a consensus about school spaces that include a quality library as a way of providing opportunities for a vast field of knowledge through the collection and promotion of services that focus on the student's critical and civic education.
