Redefining the role of librarians in the job market:
an overview of new trends and perspectives
Abstract
Librarians are professionals who can work in any environment where information is understood as the object of study. In this sense, the technological and social transformations that occur in society influence librarians to develop new skills and abilities in order to meet the demands of their users, who are increasingly connected and inserted in the digital world. In view of the above, this article is part of an ongoing research for a doctoral thesis and aims to map an overview of the trends and perspectives of librarians' performance in the job market. This study is considered an applied research with a qualitative approach. The methodological procedures used were a literature review in the Scopus, Brapci and Scielo databases and a bibliographic and documentary research. The results obtained indicated that librarians work mostly in the traditional job market: libraries. Proactivity, creativity, communication, use of technology and continuing education were highlighted as the skills and abilities that librarians need to develop in the current context to work in any environment.
