IT´S MANCHETE: the use of newspapers in the Sesc Center Library from João Pessoa

Abstract

This study analyzes how to configure the use of newspapers in the SESC Center Library for commercial workers in Joao Pessoa. The research is constituted as a study of users of a descriptive nature, on the methodological approach that combines quantitative with the qualitative aspect. Has as subject the users/business people who frequent the library, a total of 16 commercial workers. As a tool for data collection, we used the questionnaire. Regarding the data analysis was conducted on the tabulation of data using basic statistical techniques and descriptive analysis categories. As a result, we obtained a profile of that commercial workers understand, in most cases, a male and relatively young population with high school education, with income between one to two minimum wages. Most business people usually visit the library in the afternoon hours, specifically in the "lunch time", using as main source informational newsprint. The research group has a preference to read the columns that deal with culture/Contests/Jobs/Policy/Leisure, showing satisfaction with the quality of newspapers and dissatisfaction with the quantity available. It concludes with the need to acquire new titles of newspapers and creating more spaces reserved for the reading of them.
