The History of the Journal
Created on October 10, 1995, the Associação Brasileira de Trombonistas (ABT) is pleased to present our Scientific Journal of the Associação Brasileira de Trombonistas. Published internationally as The Brazilian Trombone Association Journal, the publication is an achievement for Brazilian trombonists.
The idea of a specialized publication aimed at teachers and students had its embryo with the publication of the Bulletin entitled Boca no Trombone in 1999, including articles in its content in 2005 and 2006. Such an initiative already demonstrated the need for a scientific publication. In the 1999 Festival, there was also a conference focusing on Performance anxiety and orthopedic problems in trombonists. The board was formed by Dorotéia Starling (physician) and by the physician and trombonist Sérgio Rocha, a member of our body of editors.
Another outstanding fact was the creation of the 1st ABT Scientific Symposium held during the 18th ABT Meeting in Tatuí, SP, in 2012.
In its sixth edition in 2017, the Symposium encouraged trombone teachers and researchers to share their knowledge in different areas related to the trombone: performance, history, repertoire, pedagogy, and health.
The Magazine focuses on disseminating research and experience reports from Brazilian and foreign musicians. It may include in its issues translations of articles and interviews that will focus on connecting the academic world with the trombone practice in different parts of the country. It will offer two annual editions in the following format: One containing scientific articles. Another contains only videos related to ongoing or concluded research.
The articles published in the first three editions of the Journal were selected among the papers presented at the Scientific Symposiums held between 2012 and 2017. As of 2018, the Journal will receive submissions throughout the year and will also have new Brazilian and foreign collaborators. Access to our Magazine can be done via the ABT website.
As of 2020, the Journal began to accept submissions for researchers from all brass instruments (i.e., Trumpet, French Horn, Tuba, and Euphonium)
