The research and understanding of the use of air speed in Brass instruments sound
emission has become increasingly common in music scientific universe. This aspect is a
fundamental issue for the development of brass performance. Based on perspectives
from four musicians consolidated as performers and teachers in the universe of Brass
instruments, especially horn players, this article analyzes and presents in a simplified
way methodologies that can be applied especially in learning the use of air speed in
brass instruments sound emission. Common perspectives were highlighted as well as
differences between the studied approaches. There are several materials that address
different ways of practicing the use of air and in this research, we focus especially on
four aspects that can be used in this perspective: use of abdominal muscles support,
tongue position, throat opening and lips position.
