From music idea towards music experience

Abstract

The idealistic aesthetics tried to dissolve the contradiction of the Enlightenment about the mind or the sensory experience centrality in the constitution of knowledge. If the philosophers of idealism lifted up the sensibility products to the plan of knowledge, on the other hand they promoted a profound contradiction about the musical aesthetic object. They considered the music is incongruous with the understanding because it renounce spaciality and materiality. However, at the same time, the music was brought to the inside of mind. A definitive embodiment of mind promoted by twentieth century phenomenologies have changed drastically the relation of musical experience with the production of knowledge. From then on, the contemporary cognitive research seems to point to new perspectives for the study of musical meaning and musical understanding communication.
