Abstract

This assay aims to identify the elements that enable a sustainable rural development, from the model of rural development installed in Brazil in the 2000s and how this model impacts in the future of the peasant family agriculture at Ceará’s semiarid, leading to autonomy, subordination or exclusion in relation to the capitalist way of production. The search was developed starting from the regionalization of the state of Ceará in Rural territories of identity. The research, of a descriptive and explanatory nature, contemplated five territories and six settlements of which we obtained information. Therefore, the survey is based on the bibliographic and field research, with the first one being part of the argumentative structure of the results. After the collect, the information was presented in tables and analyzed through the dialectical historical materialism. The results indicate that the model of rural development promotes the subordination and posteriorly the exclusion of the peasant family agriculture, following the logic of the dominant way of production that subordinates the other ways of production.
