Ceará is particularly susceptible to prolonged periods of drought. The availability of water to serve the population of inhabitants of Ceará depends basically on the water stocks accumulated in superficial reservoirs. Human activities in the contribution basins have been degrading the water quality of these reservoirs, such as the application of pesticides in low water areas. Thus, it is important to seek management strategies that focus on the recovery and preservation of water bodies. This work aimed to evaluate the impact of the use of pesticides in the leakage of reservoirs in the municipality of Forquilha, focusing on water quality. For this purpose, analyzes were carried out to determine the multiresidue of pesticides in water samples from the main reservoirs: Forquilha, Arrebita and Cacimbinha. Visits were also made to 10 farmers, established in the watershed of the mentioned reservoirs, to evaluate the routine of pesticide use at the site. The determination of multi-pesticide residues did not present values above acceptable. Microbiological analysis showed thermotolerant coliforms in the Cacimbinha reservoir, making consumption without treatment unviable. The visited farmers stated that they use herbicides and an insecticide that they call “fly poison”. These insecticides are for veterinary use based on Cypermethrin and are not registered for use on vegetables. Farmers also reported that they apply pesticides without the use of personal protective equipment, in addition to claiming to feel sick and headache after applications.
