Abstract

ABSTRACT

The concept of performance has played an important role throughout the history of geography, having been marked by distinct approaches and conceptions linked to the theoretical-methodological references adopted by thinkers and thinkers of geographic science. In the field of agrarian studies, territory stands out as an important concept, not only in currents such as critical agrarian geography, but also in studies that dialogue with cultural geography. In this sense, studies on indigenous peoples and quilombola communities, from the territorial dimension, have been progressively gaining importance in Brazilian agrarian geography, constituting a new front for expanding geographic horizons. Thus, the objective of this study is to understand the approaches to the concept of territory in research that discusses traditional peoples and communities, using the annals of the International Symposium on Agricultural Geography (2003-2019) as a bibliographical excerpt. The methodology used to construct the research is based on content analysis, according to Bardin (2022). Based on content analysis, we used qualitative and quantitative techniques that made it possible to define the research analysis corpus, thereby identifying 421 publications, within the total of 4,971 research studies published in the annals of SINGA, which discussed indigenous peoples and quilombola communities in the nine editions of the analyzed annals. Finally, we found, within the scope of the research results, a wide variety of territorial approaches blocked throughout the bibliographical section researched, which total more than a hundred definitions of what constitutes the concept of territory. Furthermore, we saw the strengthening of themes relating to indigenous people and quilombolas, which were manifested by the increase in the number of research on these peoples throughout the SINGA annals.
