Abstract

This text aims to analyze the strengths and challenges associated with the territorial management of the municipality of Irecê-Ba between 1985 and 2022. The examination takes into consideration the influences of emancipationism and the territorial fragmentation experienced by the municipality during this period. The methodology employed involves the systematic collection of secondary data (from sources such as IBGE and SEI-BA), documentary research (including laws and normative documents), and field research. The field research includes the mapping of essential public services, particularly in the areas of education and health. Additionally, interviews were conducted with key political figures within the local community. The results of the analysis reveal that the fragmentation of Irecê led to territorial reduction, impacting the locations, distances, and spatial distribution of infrastructure and services. This, in turn, brought about changes in the population profile, the economic landscape of the municipality, and the distribution and provision of public services, specifically in the domains of health and education.
