Abstract

The School Health referenced in the Health in Schools Program (PSE) aims at the comprehensive education of students in public schools through health prevention and promotion actions. It seeks, through strategies of municipal health departments, to establish agreements with the public education system to ensure the complete development of students. In the Pantanal de Aquidauana, located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, operations are being established and agreed upon with institutions in the three government spheres, and philanthropic (Pestalozzi) networks, serving children in early childhood education, students in elementary and high school, as well as special education. To identify the strategies, planning, and execution of this public policy, a theoretical, conceptual, and methodological survey was conducted, along with documentary research and regulations regarding the operational dynamics developed between health and education in the area studied during the 2017/2018, 2019/2020, 2021/2022, and 2023/2024 cycles. Quantitative data on the number of students served were collected from the INEP website (School Census), G-SEA, E-SUS, and the Tagnos System (Data Management System of the Municipal Network of Aquidauana), as well as through interviews with the PSE coordination, teachers, and school administrators. The results indicate that in the four mentioned cycles, 36, 25, 36, and 37 units were agreed upon, respectively, totaling 43,751 students benefited from program actions, aimed at diagnosis and prevention. Students presenting any illness are subsequently referred to specialized services. The potential of this public policy in promoting the health of a social stratum susceptible to a diversity of pathologies, especially in the context of socio-spatial, environmental vulnerability, and unique characteristics of the Pantanal Biome, is highlighted.
