Resumo

Strains of Mycabactenum avium-intracellulare. M. gordonae and M. fortuitum showed an ability to survive and/or multiply during 30 days in autoclaved water samples. According to the strain behavior, the mater samples could be divided in three groups: the first supporting the mycobacterial growth (swmming pool, water in contact with animals and stream), the second allowing survival of the strains (tap water and reservoir) and the third salt water yielding variable growth patterns. Salinity was more important than the quantity of organic matter as a major factor for this behavior.
