Diante da face noturna do feminino: o pesadelo e a Mara no folclore escandinavo

Diversas das línguas germânicas possuem registros da palavra mara/ mære e outras variantes. Esse substantivo designa o nome dado a certas criaturas, geralmente femininas, que estão relacionadas ao pesadelo e à ataques noturnos de cunho sexual, acometendo geralmente homens. Este artigo oferece pela primeira vez em português a tradução de alguns materiais folclóricos que citam essas criaturas, sobretudo em língua alemã. Oferecemos em seguida uma breve contextualização dos componentes culturais subjacentes às narrativas da mara nas sociedades escandinavas e propomos uma breve análise dos principais elementos que constituem suas narrativas.
