Vivere al passo con i tempi: le pratiche fiscali nella Danimarca medievale

L'evoluzione del sistema fiscale danese tra il XII e il XIV secolo illustra un conflitto tra la volontà di adeguarsi alle norme occidentali e la resistenza delle popolazioni locali legate alle usanze ancestrali. Il regno danese, inizialmente strutturato attorno a un'economia e a un sistema fiscale nordico ancora embrionali, vide progressivamente emergere un sistema fiscale più complesso, influenzato dalla Chiesa romana e dai regni meridionali. Questa trasformazione comportò una progressiva perdita delle libertà immutabili dei bønder, che divennero soggetti alla volontà fiscale di un re sempre più potente. Sebbene tra l'XI e il XII secolo si registrino rifiuti di adattamento e tentativi di rivolta, l'opposizione che il potere reale deve affrontare diminuisce progressivamente, consentendo la legittimazione di una politica fiscale che segna l'integrazione della Danimarca nel modello feudale dell'Occidente cristiano.
