Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Sudamérica: International Journal of Human Rights accepts scientific papers in the format of Articles — which can be Research Reports or Experience Reports — Theoretical Essays, Interviews, Poetry/Poems, being open to contributions from various fields of knowledge, with a maximum of 4 (four) authors, necessarily including at least one master’s degree holder among them;

To submit your contribution, it is necessary to register on the Sudamérica website. The contribution must be original and unpublished, and not under review by another journal; otherwise, justification must be provided in the "Comments to the editor" section at the time of submission;

All authors must be registered with ORCID and provide the number in the corresponding field at submission;

Authors must submit, in a file separate from the manuscript body (Identification Form), Full Name(s) of the author(s), professional background, academic degrees, positions held, and the name of the institution(s) to which they are affiliated, and email address, strictly in this order;

They must submit, in a file separate from the manuscript body (Statement of Responsibility), signed by all authors, declaring each author’s contribution to the manuscript, as well as committing to the journal’s anti-plagiarism policy;

Files must be submitted in Word format (.doc or .docx); they should be submitted with the paper’s title as the file name (title.doc), so as NOT TO ALLOW identification of the authors anywhere in the document;

Manuscripts may be written in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, following all ABNT standards.

Manuscript format: A4 size paper, typed in Arial 12 font; 1.5 line spacing; margins: top and left 3 cm, bottom and right 3.5 cm;

Manuscript titles: must be centered, bold; Arial 14 font. They must contain a maximum of 15 words;

Submissions must be made exclusively through the journal’s platform. All must comply with the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in “Instructions for Authors.”


Instructions for Authors:

Articles

  • Articles must include a title, abstract, and keywords in two languages (Portuguese [mandatory for articles written in a foreign language], Spanish, English, or Italian);

  • Article content must include an introduction (with a description of the methodological path), development, final considerations, and bibliographic references, and must be written in Portuguese, Spanish, English, or Italian;

Research Reports: Reports of systematic, original, and scientifically relevant investigations, which may include theoretical studies based on systematic literature reviews with critical analysis, or empirical materials. It is necessary to specify the theoretical-methodological foundations and propose analyses and discussions derived from the research that contribute to deepening a certain topic, concept, or suggest new perspectives. Research involving human subjects must explicitly state ethical considerations.

  • They must be between 15 and 20 pages in length, including abstract and references.
  • Abstract: in the same language as the text, containing 10 to 12 lines, Arial 11 font, single spacing, in a single paragraph, accompanied by three to five keywords; the abstract should provide a concise presentation of the article’s relevant points, with a brief explanation of the introduction topics, the objective of the work, methodological path, results, and conclusion. Below the abstract, the article title and the abstract in another language (English, Spanish, or Italian) must be provided, following the same rules described for title and abstract;
  • Citations: up to 3 lines must be inserted in the text within quotation marks and followed by appropriate references; citations longer than 3 lines must be set off from the main text with Arial 11 font, single spacing, justified alignment, and a 4 cm left margin indent. Direct or indirect citation of information expressed by other authors must follow the author-date system, according to updated ABNT standards. Example: (Author’s Last Name, year, page).
  • Footnotes: should be limited to explanatory notes, numbered sequentially in Arabic numerals, and formatted as follows: Arial 10 font, single line spacing, justified alignment.
  • Tables and graphs should be inserted within the text in editable format, not as “images.”

Experience Reports: Complete and concise reports related to university outreach or professional intervention, with social and scientific relevance, which act to promote, protect, and defend human rights.

  • They must be between 12 and 15 pages in length, including abstract and references.
  • Abstract: same format as Research Reports;
  • Citations: same as Research Reports;
  • Footnotes: same as Research Reports;
  • Tables and graphs: same as Research Reports.

Theoretical Essays: Texts of a theoretical-reflective nature that contribute to the development of concepts or theoretical approaches. They must contain not only exposition of ideas and arguments from other authors but also original contributions.

  • They must be between 10 and 12 pages, including abstract and references.
  • Abstract: same as Research Reports;
  • Citations: same as Research Reports;
  • Footnotes: same as Research Reports.

Interviews: Conducted with authors, professionals, or personalities who contribute to the human rights field. They must be between 15 and 25 pages, and consent from the interviewee(s) for publication must be provided. Only interviews commissioned by the editors will be published.

Poetry/Poems: Must include title and authorship.


Bibliographic References:

References should appear at the end of the text, following ABNT standards.
