The Profile of Brazilian Labore Economics Courses in the Begining of XXI Century

Abstract

This text recover a line of research initiated by the author in the mid-1980s, aiming to know what is taught in courses of Labor Economics in Brazilian Higher Education Institutions, both at the graduate level, as in post-graduate level. At that time, this discipline was relatively new in the setting of the courses of Economics Sciences in Brazil. Today, the Schools of Economics have expanded with new courses, the world of work has gone through major transformations, the teaching of Economics Sciences has been progress, especially in the area of quantitative methods, the Brazilian labor market has undergone major transformations, all that facts justify a new study bringing elements of changes to the content of programs. To learn the changes in the profile of Labor Economics programs taught in Brazilian Economic Schools due to these facts we structuring this text as follows. Section 2 describes the reasons for the author to recover the study on the profile of the courses of Labor Economics, in addition to what has been said in this introduction. Section 3 contains a summary of the article published in 1990, in order to provide a comparison with the development of this discipline after that period. Section 4 explains the procedures for information collection and for acquisition of programs from the courses of the Higher Education Institutions consulted. Section 5 analyzes the content of programs under various perspectives, both in terms of graduation, as post-graduation. Section 6 establishes, within certain parameters, a comparison of teaching the discipline between Brazil and the rest of the world. Section 7 presents some final considerations and Section 8 contains the references list.
