Abstract

This article addresses the issue of student attention as one of the aspects involved in the supposedly universal journey of becoming a student through school institutions. Given this, I try to situate the incidence of a diagnosis such as ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), which eventually reifies problematic aspects of this path. I argue that these productions involve conceptions of childhood, behavior and productivity that are mobilized daily at school. These conceptions are tensioned at the intersections between the disciplinary regimes of production of attention and new investments in the production of subjectivity: consumption, pharmaceuticals, profitability. By ethnographically approaching school attention, this study shows the sixth year of an elementary school as a central moment in the production of the student.
