Abstract

Records management is a much-discussed topic in the Archive Science area, as it involves important actions so that documents are managed from production to the evaluation that will determine whether the document will be eliminated or stored permanently. The supports change, but the essence remains the same: access, process, organize, evaluate, manage, and preserve documents so that users can have access to authentic documents and base their decisions. Therefore, the objective of this article is to present a reflection on records management involving a discussion on the Life Cycle Theory, the Records Continuum Model, and the Archive-as-is Theory. To this end, bibliographical research of a qualitative, descriptive nature was used as methodological procedures. As a result, it is evident that digital documents in the context of the Life Cycle Theory no longer support the reality of records management and the Records Continuum Model aims to answer questions regarding unresolved problems using new perspectives. The theory called Archive-as-is changes the way information is valued over time. Therefore, records management consists of actions applied to documents, through the implementation of archival processes that range from production to evaluation, anticipating memory issues based on theories and/or models that modify the understanding of documents , with the aim of ensuring efficient and effective access to assist in decisions.
