Quiremas/grafemas de superfície do sistema SignWriting

Abstract

This article assesses the allocation of surface quiremas/graphemes in the signs written in SignWriting (SW). For analysis, we considered the theoretical references of Capovilla, Raphael and Maurício (2009) and Barreto and Barreto (2015). Capovilla, Raphael and Maurício (2009) understand the importance of allocating said quiremas in the writing of signs in which the hands overlap. The authors analyze that the non-allocation of the surface, in some signs written in SW, can make reading unfeasible and observe that the resource of the surface allocation in general is used for classifiers. For Barreto and Barreto (2015), some written signs can be difficult to read, due to the position of the articulators, therefore, surface graphemes help in understanding their position and indicate how the hands are positioned with each other or with another part of the body. Barreto and Barreto (2015) request that the writer always makes an analysis if the written sign really needs the mentioned graphemes because they must be allocated when necessary. The two theoretical frameworks converge on the use of the surface when considered necessary by the writer, however there is a differentiation regarding the surface representations by the authors and which are presented in this article. The identification of differences between theoretical references is evident in the methodology with the presentation of signs written by Capovilla, Raphael and Maurício (2009) and by Barreto and Barreto (2015). We conclude that the differences regarding the use of surface quirema/grapheme probably do not prevent the teaching and learning of the SW. However, we alert you to the theoretical framework to be used. In addition, we consider it pertinent to carry out research on surface chiremes/graphemes regarding the real need for their use in a written sign.
