Characterization of artisanal lobster fishing and socioeconomic aspects of fishermen on the coast of Paraíba
Mapping of artisanal fishing on the coast of Paraíba
Abstract
The socioeconomic survey of lobster fishermen in the state of Paraíba was carried out through interviews conducted between July 2015 and December 2017. The questionnaire used in this study addressed 40 questions which seek to obtain information on artisanal fishermen to help government agencies to develop future support policies based on local reality. The artisanal fishermen who catch lobster in Paraíba are mostly adults, aged between 31 and 50 years, married, and have been fishing for more than 30 years and, depending on the weather, work 3 to 4 days a week. Their average monthly income is 3 minimum wages, which is usually complemented by extra activities such as civil construction and others related to fishing.
