APPLICATION OF THE COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORIES

Abstract

This work gives a broad view of the collection development and management as to the application of principles, practices, and methodologies frequently used by libraries to the construction of repositories independently of their kind once there seems to exist a lack of studies in such area, both in Brazil and abroad. This study approaches all institutional repositories in a wide range, including data providers as well as service providers. It also reflects on the pertinent aspects to the collection development, such as the definition of the collection scope, the creation of a collection development policy, aspects related to rights and intellectual property and the types of input and output from where the metadata will be derived. It presents parameters to be considered regarding sustainability and directories evaluation.
