Abstract

This work is a report of a research whose aim was to analyze the religious library based on Umberto Eco´s “O Nome da Rosa”. The theoretical ground used considered the history of the libraries, mainly the specialized and religious ones. The methodology included a documentary research as well as a field research carried out at the São Tomás de Aquino Library at the Seminário Arquidiocesano da Paraíba Imaculada Conceição (SAPIC). The results pointed to the presence of a professional of Information, Technologies of Information and Communication in the religious library. It was concluded that, although the religious libraries are inserted in a new context, they present some similarities with the medieval monasteries such as the Father management, the richness of the collections, the inappropriate location and above all the extreme care with the collections over  the access to information.
