Abstract

This text deals with the construction of scientific knowledge in the perspective of the development of productive forces in society, particularly in industrial capitalism. Having acquired special relevance in this process, the scientific field grew and diversified giving origin to a variety of new fields among which information science. From its beginnings this new science has been characterised by an interdisciplinary approach to problems and a social vision of information, which allow us to propose the facilitation of the communication of scientific knowledge as the social responsibility of the new field. In the present context in which scientific knowledge is highly valued, information science can act as a standard, which unifies scientific fields and people in a network of knowledge.
