Authors

  • Maria Mercedes Otero Rocha

Abstract

This article describes the new role of information in Brazil starting in 1964, and its emergence and links with the popular movement. It defines documentation from another point of view based firmly on social and political considerations. This gave rise to what has become know as "popular documentation". It points out existing differences and emphasises the influence of the movement of popular documentation on the traditional activities of Library Science and Documentation.
