THE LIBRARIAN AS A HISTORICAL AGENT: from “humanist” to “Modern Information Professional”

Abstract

This paper intends to analyze, from the historic-social perspective, the whole of activity that distinguish the profession action of librarians. For this, the humanist librarian image and its roll of “caretaker” of the secrets kept in the library were presented aiming to, eventually, in the course of historical evolution, insert it in the group of the Modern Information Professionals, which participate actively in all the informational cycle stages and are intimate with information technology. Trajectory that require analysis about competence, ability and exigencies of formation that marketplace modern to request.
