Abstract

This text presents the results of an accomplished research, through questionnaires sent by internet, with teachers of all of the Brazilian universities of library and information science. The subjects treated of the theme of the information science as: a social science; an interdisciplinary science; a post-modern science; and the nature of its relationship with the librarianship. The answers presented a high agreement degree, however with arguments and understandings very differents. To proceed, it was requested each interviewee that indicated ten authors and ten works he/she to judge relevant in the area of information science. The results showed a great dispersion of the indications, being the authors more mentioned Saracevic, Lancaster, Borko and Pinheiro, and the work more mentioned was “Information science: origin, evolution and relationships”, of Saracevic.
