Abstract

The description of the multimedia objects content is currently a great challenge which falls directly upon the result of the information retrieval. MPEG-7, interface for description of multimedia contents, is a complex standard based on metadata templates that operates on the description of this sort of content. This article is intended to describe the MPEG-7 structure, establish its relations with the problems of the multimedia objects information retrieval and briefly present some initiatives of information management and retrieval systems development, based on MPEG-7.
