Reflections about the relations between thematic and descriptive representation

Abstract

It present the importance of integrating of thematic and descriptive representation, revealing the theoretical and practical aspects of these disciplines and tracing relationships between them. This work objectives to discuss the conceptual models Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR), Functional Requirements for Subject Authority Data (FRAD) and Functional Requirements for Subject Authority Data (FRSAD), illustrating them with the work of information search conducted by user of information in the sistem. Emphasize the importance of specific knowledge, without losing the overview of complementary. The theoretical and methodological approach is find by the theoretical search and conceptual of thematics discussed to analyze the facts available in the literature and discuss its practical applicability. We conclude that there is a happy and necessary integration between the thematic and descriptive representations that optimize the informational access, though descriptive representation is still considered by many as pure physical description in catalogs manuals.
