THE METADATA AS TECHNOLOGICAL INSTRUMENTS IN STANDARDIZATION AND POTENTIALIZATION OF INFORMATIONAL RESOURCES IN THE SCOPE OF THE DIGITAL LIBRARIES IN THE SEMANTIC WEB ERA

Abstract

The digital libraries, as a promising environment for the recovery of information, have in the metadata use, the standardization of the representation forms and the possibility of guarantee of interoperability among systems, favoring the integrity and accessibility of the informational resources in an efficient way by the final user. Based on the literature available, one points out the use of metadata in the building of digital libraries as key elements in the consolidation of the Semantic Web. The representation and description of the shape and content of the informational resources stand out as the focus in the search for initiatives for the building of representation patterns and description of resources which use underlying technology to the Semantic Web.
