CHARACTERISTICS OF SCIENTIFIC PERIODICALS PRODUCED BY BRAZILIAN´S UNIVERSITARIES PUBLISHERS

Abstract

The work presents the characteristics of printed scientific periodicals, produced by Brazilians universitaries publishers, obtained by analyze of titles regularly published between January of 2000 and December of 2003, in the three big areas – Exacts, Human and Biologics Arts – based in model of evaluation developed specifically to research of master degree wich will be defended in the second semester of 2005 at School of Communication and Art (ECA), USP. Discusses the strong institutional character of theses titles, comparing them with the scientific periodicals produced by societies. Reflects about the functions of an universitary publisher and presents a brief historical of scientific periodicals and the problems faced by them in Brazil. Questions the place occupied by electronic periodicals and reflects about scientific knowledge, scientific spreading, publishing process and evaluations´s models of scientific periodicals.
