n. 1 - 2024: Interculturality, Foreign Languages, and the World of Work

Contemporaneity, marked by the intense progress of information and communication technologies, by migratory movements, and by the internationalization of public institutions and private companies, demands the expansion of dialogues on cultural diversity and the interrelationship between societies. In this sense, knowledge of intercultural mediation mechanisms becomes essential, especially for professionals who wish to respond to the new needs of globalization in the market.

This reality requires professionals who can communicate effectively in order to overcome any intercultural and linguistic barriers that arise in their daily lives. Thus, beyond specific technical knowledge of each professional field, the acquisition of linguistic and intercultural competences opens up the possibility of establishing positive processes of intercultural mediation (ABDALLAH-PRETCEILLE, 1996).

Therefore, in this dossier, we intend to gather works that present proposals for discussion regarding the applicability of interculturality and foreign languages for professional purposes, considering the current context of globalization and border approaches.
