MILITARIZAÇÃO E REPRESSÃO: CRIMINALIZAÇÃO DOS MOVIMENTOS SOCIAIS EM SÃO LUÍS PÓS-1964

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze historical and structural issues that were fundamental to understanding processes of legitimation of violent actions carried out by the military during the 1980s. It also intends to reflect on possible consequences of this process on the idea of criminalization of social movements in Sao Luis, MA. To this end, priority was given to analysis on conflicts and demands for urban land in this capital, paying attention to the political positions, the role of the Bureau of Social and PoliticalOrder of Maranhão, the context of the National Security Act (LSN) and its local implications. These aspects were analyzed according to a set of journalistic sources composed of clippings of the day, files of their own DOPS-MA and reports of progressive organizations linked to the Archdiocese of São Luís.
