Abstract

Guided by Maurice Halbwachs's work “La topographie légendaire des évangilesen Terre Sainte”, I intend to discuss the constitution of the memory places of Christianity, highlighting the Via Sacra. Revisiting these places, the past is renewed in the collective memory, strengthening the Christian religion. The tradition present in these founding spaces is based on the historical -religious scenario, which was and is constantly revived in various regions. Via crucis is a clear example of this intense remembrance, being also present in the Brazilian religious and artistic imagination. The artistic representations of the Via Sacra contribute to the strengthening of the symbolic heritage, and are fundamental elements in the reinvention of a sacred toponym. The purpose of this paper is to present some elements of this tradition in line with the concept of collective memory. In christian tradition, places, images, and objects served as elements of a "recall" of a memorable past that one wished to perpetuate.
