It presents Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) applications already deployed, or under implementation, in libraries and assessments which of these resources can be effectively scientific, meeting the purpose of increasing research and education as well as their ways of implementation. The methodology used was a descriptive literature review with a qualitative approach. As the results of this investigation, it was found that many researches are being carried out related to the use of VR and AR in libraries and that some resources can be very useful and others unfeasible. In this context, it was possible to develop an assessment of the current scenario of VR and AR in libraries, how these applications are being used in the contemporaneity and as future perspectives.
