This article analyzes the images published by media in the days following the suspension of activities on the campus of the Universidade Estadual de Londrina (State Londrina University, northern Paraná state) motivated by a suspected case of influenza A in a student of another institution that trainee in UEL. For the analysis, we adopted two methods: the iconography versus iconology, proposed by Kossoy (2001), and analitic deconstruction, proposed by Boni (2000). Both seek to segment the analysis by identifying visible aspects first and then interpret their significant. This second method, proceed to analysis the technical resources and elements of the language, trying to approach the intentional communication of the photographer. This paper also discusses the role of photojournalism and your deliberative construction of meaning by the image. On this object of study – and by methodologies used – its clear that there was a trend of humanization and extra-exploitation of the use of a signifier: the airway protective mask.
