Study of the variables utilized in the research on the use of the Capes Digital Library

Abstract

This paper presents an analytical review of the research studies, published between 2002 and 2008, about the use of the Capes Digital Library of Scientific Journals. 11 studies were found, reported in 20 publications. The instruments utilized for data collection were analyzed to identify the variables studied. These were classified into 14 categories and aim at measuring the success of the Portal through its use and user satisfaction and at identifying factors which can explain its use or lack of it such as the characteristics of the user, user awareness about the Portal and its resources, use of other sources of information and application of the information retrieved. They also elicit the difficulties undergone by the users, the advantages and impact of the use of the Portal, user search behavior and suggestions to improve the system.
