PROPOSAL FOR THE CREATION OF THE ARCHIVING SYSTEMTHE UNIVERSITY OF THE STATE OF SANTA CATARINA: trajectory, challenges and perpectives

Abstract

This paper addresses the strategies used for the creation of the Archiving System at the University of the State of Santa Catarina – UDESC. It points out the influence of the actors from the Undergraduate Program in Library Science on making the administration conscious of the need to implement a document management policy for the University. It describes the trajectory of the creation process of the Archiving System starting from the establishment of the “Talking about University Archives” Working Group and moving to the implementation of the activities that were developed, such as the Archive Diagnosis, the approval of the Document Disposal Policy and the Policies and Procedures Manuals for the areas involved with teaching activities. The article presents the structure proposed for the Archiving System at UDESC, based on the principles of Archival Science, on the employment of the resources provided by information and communication technologies, on the pertaining legislation and on experiences in the implementation of archiving systems in other Brazilian universities.
