Abstract
This text seeks to understand the formulation of discourses of information science with respect to three aspects: the genesis of the theoretical and pedagogical tendencies, the interdisciplinary relation with or evolution from library science, and the authorship of the first concept. In this historical context, explanations arise for the various denominations of the area and the professional, based on a detailed description of events between 1961 and 1962, known as the Georgia Tech Conferences. However, the greatest importance of these conferences was that of conceptualising and formalising information science in the USA, as an area of academic professional activity.Downloads
