Abstract

This work investigates the use of BI (Business Intelligence) information technology as a support for data basis knowledge extraction for strategy formulation regarding the improvement of Education Quality at Santa Catarina Government Education and Innovation Secretary. The research is classified as an exploratory and descriptive quantitative case study. The data were collected from the data base from the State Government at the State System of Register and Scholar Information (SERIE). The data treatment was done using the Knowledge Discovery in Data Base process – KDD from Fayyad (2006). The study verified that is possible to extract relevant knowledge through data mining generating content that can be interpreted and evaluated with precision, comprehension and interest criteria. It was also observed that new knowledge from the data basis is relevant, precise and necessary for managers’ support in teaching training and formation strategies. This enables to focus in students needs, to improve the investments yield and the public administration performance in citizens’ formation.
